True love is not something that fades away such as the emphasis on falling in and out of love in today’s culture. Love means commitment, seeking the best for others, devotion, and is sacrificial.
To understand true love we need to look to the one who showed ultimate love. In John 3:16 Jesus said:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
We have to experience this kind of love before we can express it as it 1st John 4 says:
“We love because he first loved us”
Think about the example of Jesus. He sacrificed himself for us. He loves us even though we are a mess. He lifts us out of the pits and He empowers us daily, hourly, to grow to be more than we thought possible. That is love.
