For Unto Us- Prince of Peace

I woke up one morning with the thought of doing a series on Isaiah 9:6. The thought actually woke me up. This brief series started with For Unto To Us- The Birth of Jesus Foretold 700 Years Before. Then the series began to look at Isaiah 9:6 and the different aspects of he shall be called. First was For Unto Us- And he Will Be Called- Wonderful Counselor. Then it was For Unto Us- Mighty God. Earlier this week it was- For Unto Us- Eternal Father Today we conclude with For Unto Us- Prince of Peace.

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

We tend to think of peace only as the absence of conflict between countries, or sides. But that kind of peace is temporary. We might think of peace as a state of mind or being at peace. The problem is where are we deriving the peace of mind from. That is only as good as its source. If we look to ourselves, that peace does not last. If we look to performing any kind of exercise like yoga, that can be fleeting.

While Jesus was preparing his disciples for the impending death and resurrection of Jesus, the disciples were troubled. It is in that context that Jesus said in John 14:27:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Jesus gives peace that is based on him. It is an eternal peace. He does not give us peace like the world gives. He gives us eternal peace with God our Creator. Peace with God is where eternal peace starts. Paul wrote in Romans 5:1:

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Paul also wrote about the peace we can have inside in our spirits in Romans 15:13″

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The peace Jesus gives is eternal peace with God and internal peace in the face of adversity knowing that he is with us and will never leave us.

One day Jesus will return to earth and then the world will be at peace. At that time there then be no more war and other troubles that have plagued human beings for thousands upon thousands of years.

The peace Jesus gives is complete and thorough.

You can have that peace with God, eternal peace and internal peace that Jesus offers freely by believing in Jesus as your Savior that he came and died for you and me.

I would like to share this song with you by Matt Redman- His Name Shall Be Called.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. That is so wonderful. I wrote a Christmas prayer based on Isaiah 9:6. I actually thought about writing a post on each of Jesus’ name in that verse but changed my mind. The Lord knows He had already inspired you to write these inspiring posts. God bless you my big brother.
