Yesterday I went for a follow up for my CT Scan last week. I have a condition know as white coat syndrome which basically means doctors stress me out. But nurses do not stress me out and yesterday was a great example.

The nurse who talked with me to go over meds I take, how my symptoms were etc, is from the Philippines. As we talked, I felt more relaxed than I have for a long time at a doctor’s office. We talked about how long she has lived here, her missing good seafood, and how she feels about winter. The last thing she did was check my blood pressure and it was the best numbers I have had in a long time at a doctor’s office.

Another good example is from when I had a minor surgery in 2017. I was in the recovery area and had to stay there longer because my room wasn’t ready. The recovery nurse wheeled my bed to an area she could wrap a curtain around. Then she asked me what I wanted for lunch, One of the things I asked for was ice cream. When my lunch came, she gave me two ice creams.

After that whenever I see Nursing Students or Nurses in the coffee shop, I joke with them that if I am ever their patient to remember to bring me ice cream. 🙂

Nurses have been on the front lines of this pandemic. Can you imagine where we would be without nurses?

Let’s be kind to nurses.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

    1. I imagine the past few years have been challenging for a hospital chaplain

  4. Aww that’s amazing! Nurses are really such a vital part of medicine and I feel like they really don’t get the credit they deserve.

  5. Nurses are the most important personality in a hospital. Their caring nature and dedication toward patients are unmatchable. If doctors are like God then nurses are the hands of God that cure the patient.
    Thank you

  6. Yes such a core part of medical!! They’re there for it all!

    1. They are there for all of it even the icky parts

  7. I consider myself a newbie nurse. Not so long ago I was a nursing student (December 2020) so I can relate to how these students feel. While some nurses grumble when they have nursing students assigned to them, I welcome them with open arms. One day, I hope to teach students but I have a long way to go! 🙂

Tbh I don’t know if nursing was my calling but I had a feeling I needed to switch career paths. Nursing was the hardest thing I ever did but I’m happy to be on the other side of it now. Nurses get a lot of praise yes, but it’s our job – It’s what we do. Nurses who are in it only for the money are in it for the wrong reasons!

    1. Thank you for all you do for those who are sick

      1. It’s my job but it’s a very rewarding job. I like what I do 🙂

      1. She’s ok. Going to MRI for neck next week to see what they can do next for the neck spasms. New arthritis meds are helping with the arthritis.

      2. It’s good she has you there with her

  10. A million blessings to all wonderful nurses out there.

  11. Thank you for saying this. My sister has been nursing covid patients since the beginning and she is burning out. In America, people aren’t very nice to nurses anymore. It’s sad and awful.
