Christmas is only one week away and I am looking forward to celebrating Christmas Eve Service at my church and Christmas Day service at the Ukrainian church. For me it is so important to keep the focus on Jesus since he is after all, the reason we celebrate Christmas.

I realize it is popular to tell children Santa is coming and there are cute kids programs about Santa who is a fictional character. So I thought I would compare/contrast Jesus and the fictional character Santa.
Jesus is the truth. John 14:6 Jesus said-“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Santa is fictional make believe.
In songs about Santa, children are told Santa is coming to town, so they had better be good if they want their presents not a lump of coal. So children are told receiving goodies from Santa is dependent on them being good.
Jesus is God’s gift to us even though we are sinners. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 5:8 says, But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
The gifts Santa brings, actually bought by parents or someone else, are temporary and the shine of the new gifts fades. The gift of eternal life that Jesus gives is something that no one can take away from us. And though we begin to enjoy our eternal life the moment we come to faith in Jesus, 1st Corinthians 2:9 says, “However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him.” In other words, the best is definitely yet to come for those who believe in Jesus.
Those are just a few comparison/contrasts begging the question of what do we focus on in our lives this Christmas, the secular celebration with a focus on a fictional character or on Jesus our Savior who died for us even though we are sinners?
Hope your week is blessed as we approach Christmas.
Thank you for reading. God Bless.
