It was August 1991 when one afternoon, I went to a Minnesota Twins game with some new friends from the Christian university where I studied Pastoral Studies. I was tired after having driven there the night before and getting up early to register for classes. So tired in fact, that I fell asleep sitting in the hard plastic seat at the baseball game. It was a boring pitchers duel with no score, which helped me fall asleep.

I woke up to the crowd cheering loudly. Kirby Puckett had just hit the game winning homerun in the bottom of the 9th inning. I missed the only action of the game.

We are instructed in the bible to stay alert and watch for the coming of Jesus, to be ready for Jesus to return.

1 Peter 5:8- Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

Matthew 24:42-
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”

Dear reader don’t be like me at that baseball game falling asleep and missing out. Let’s be expectedly watching for the return of Jesus.

Thank you for reading. God Bless.

  1. What a day that will be when Jesus returns 🙂

    1. The greatest in the future

  2. I am sure we will be waked up if we are literally Asleep when he returns.

  3. There is the story that Jesus told of the 10 virgins who were waiting for the bridegroom. They all fell asleep, while waiting for the bridegroom. Five wise virgins had extra oil for their lamps as it was late at night when the bridegroom came. The five that did not have enough oil, went to buy oil, when they were awakened by the cry that the bridegroom was there. The wise virgins went into to the marriage supper with the bridegroom and the door was shut. The foolish ones came later and were not admitted and were told that the bridegroom did not know him. (Matthew 25:1-13)

From this parable it seems that we need intimacy with the bridegroom and extra oil (anointing). We might sleep but we need to be prepared.

    1. Yes the key is knowing Jesus

  4. Indeed we cant afford to fall asleep. We have to be on guard, watch and pray. Thank you for the encouraging word.

    1. I was just praying about his return today
